Anthurium baloanum is a rare and striking species of the genus Anthurium, belonging to the Araceae family. Native to the cloud forests of Central and South America—particularly in Ecuador and Colombia—it thrives in humid, shaded environments at mid to high elevations.

Growth habit: Epiphytic or terrestrial herb with a compact to semi-climbing form.

Leaves: The foliage is typically large, leathery, and heart-shaped to lanceolate, with a velvety or glossy texture depending on the individual plant. The upper surface is dark green, while the underside may show lighter tones or a reddish hue. Prominent veining gives the leaves a sculptural appearance.

Inflorescence: The plant produces a slender spadix and a narrow, often green to purple spathe. The flowers are small and closely packed along the spadix.

Root system: Thick aerial roots adapted for moisture absorption from humid air and organic debris.

Habitat and Care:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which can scorch the leaves.

Temperature: Thrives in warm, stable conditions (18–27 °C ).

Humidity: High humidity (70% or higher) is essential, mimicking its native cloud forest environment.

Soil: Requires a well-draining, airy mix (orchid bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite).

Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy; allow slight drying between waterings.
