Hoya Burtoniae
Hoya burtoniae (Wax Plant)
Trailing texture with a soft, velvety finish
Hoya burtoniae is a compact trailing houseplant with small, slightly fuzzy leaves that develop rich green tones and subtle reddish hues in brighter light. Its cascading growth makes it ideal for hanging pots or shelves, where its stems can spill naturally over the edges.
Like many Hoyas, it’s a slow but rewarding grower and, in the right conditions, can produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers with a light, sweet fragrance.
Light:
Bright, indirect light is best. Can tolerate some gentle direct sun, which may enhance leaf colour.
Watering:
Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Hoyas prefer to stay on the drier side rather than consistently moist.
Humidity:
Average household humidity is fine, but it will appreciate slightly higher levels.
Temperature:
Thrives in warm conditions (18–28°C). Avoid cold temperatures and sudden drops.
Growth:
Trailing habit. Can reach lengths of 50cm+ over time.
Pet Friendly:
Generally considered non-toxic, but best kept out of reach of curious pets.
Why you’ll love it:
– Soft, velvety foliage
– Beautiful trailing growth
– Subtle colour change in brighter light
– Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant
