Hoya cv. ‘Joy’ is a beautiful and highly desirable Hoya hybrid created by Michael Miyashiro in Hawaii from Hoya sp. Laos × Hoya vitellina. It is particularly admired for its impressive, broad oval leaves, which are thick, glossy and rich green, often showing delicate silver flecking and darker margins.
Unlike many Hoyas with smaller or narrow foliage, ‘Joy’ develops large, rounded-to-oval leaves, giving mature plants a particularly lush and substantial appearance.

Hoya ‘Joy’ produces large, thick leaves with a broad oval to elliptical shape and rounded tips. The foliage is glossy green and can display attractive silver speckling, with darker pigmentation often visible around the margins.
The leaves can become impressively large as the plant matures. The stems are naturally suited to climbing and can be trained around a trellis, hoop or other support.
In bright light, the foliage can develop attractive reddish tones while the veins remain green, adding another layer of colour to an already striking plant.
 
Care Guide
Light
Provide bright indirect light. Good light encourages strong growth and can enhance the natural colouring and silver flecking of the foliage. Avoid harsh midday sunlight, particularly through glass.
Watering
Allow the growing medium to dry partially between waterings. The thick leaves retain moisture, so avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
Temperature
Keep between 18°C and 28°C for healthy active growth. Protect from cold draughts and temperatures below 12°C.
Humidity
Enjoys moderate to high humidity but can adapt well to normal household conditions when other care requirements are met.
Soil
Use a chunky, well-draining Hoya mix containing orchid bark, perlite and coco coir. The roots benefit from plenty of air circulation around them.
Feeding
Feed every 3–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Flowers
Once mature, Hoya ‘Joy’ can produce rounded clusters of attractive star-shaped flowers. The blooms are associated with pink and greenish tones and are pleasantly fragrant.
As with many Hoyas, flowering is more likely when the plant receives plenty of bright light and is allowed to mature.
