The main attraction of Hoya sp. Gunung Gading is its foliage. The leaves are generally large, oval to ovate and thick, with a lighter green surface crossed by pronounced dark green veins. The venation remains particularly noticeable on mature leaves, giving the plant its distinctive appearance.
With bright light, the foliage can become sun-stressed, developing shades of burgundy, red and deep purple while the darker veins remain visible. This colour change is a natural response to strong light rather than variegation.
The stems have a trailing or twining habit and can either be allowed to cascade from a hanging planter or given support to climb.

Care Guide
Light
Provide bright, indirect light with some gentle direct sunlight if the plant is acclimatised.
Higher light levels can encourage the attractive burgundy and reddish sun-stressed colouring, but increase direct exposure gradually to avoid leaf scorch.
Water
Allow the potting mix to approach dryness between waterings. Water thoroughly when required and allow excess water to drain completely.
Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.
Temperature
Keep warm, ideally around 18–28°C during active growth. Protect the plant from cold draughts and prolonged low temperatures.
Humidity
Higher humidity is beneficial for this tropical Hoya, particularly while producing new growth. Good airflow should be maintained alongside increased humidity.
Soil
Use a chunky, airy and very well-draining Hoya mix containing ingredients such as orchid bark, perlite and coco coir or a light houseplant compost.
The roots should have plenty of access to oxygen and should never remain waterlogged.
Feeding
Feed lightly during the active growing season with a balanced Hoya or houseplant fertiliser. Avoid heavy feeding and reduce fertilisation when growth naturally slows.
Sun-Stressed Colour
