Senecio rowleyanus ‘String of Pearls’ is a trailing succulent known for its distinctive spherical, bead-like leaves that resemble strings of green pearls. Each “pearl” is a modified leaf, storing water and featuring a subtle translucent window that allows light to penetrate deeper into the tissue—a natural adaptation to arid environments.
The plant grows in long, delicate vines that can reach 50–80 cm or more, making it ideal for hanging baskets or high shelves. Leaves are typically 5–8 mm in diameter, smooth, and firm when well-watered. Small, white, cinnamon-scented flowers may appear in bright conditions, usually during summer.
The overall growth habit is cascading and airy, forming dense clusters of pearls near the crown and trailing elegantly as stems elongate.

Care Information
Light:
Bright, indirect light or gentle morning sun. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the pearls, and avoid low light, which causes stretching and thinning.
Water:
Allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings. As a succulent, it stores water in its leaves and is prone to rot if kept constantly moist. Water sparingly in winter.
Humidity:
Average household humidity is suitable. High humidity is not necessary and can increase the risk of rot.
Temperature:
Thrives in 18–26 °C. Protect from temperatures below 10 °C, as it is sensitive to cold.
Soil:
Use a fast-draining succulent or cactus mix—typically gritty and sandy, with perlite or pumice to prevent moisture retention.
